The children of Natutale Primary School, situated 68km away from Sigatoka town, deep in the rural highlands of Navosa and those in Namosi's Ro Matanitobua Memorial Primary School are the latest to benefit from this BSP Community Project investment earmarked to help improve the quality of children's education.
The Bank handed over both these projects last week.
BSP Country Head, Haroon Ali has reaffirmed BSP's support for community development through the Branches. "Since entering Fiji in 2010, we have invested over $8m towards community projects that have enhanced school libraries, ablution blocks, renovated health facilities, installed or upgraded schools and community sports grounds and installed water tanks for the provision of clean drinking water," he said.
This year, BSP has installed solar energy systems that have powered up schools, boarding hostels, dining halls and teachers quarters in Nailuva District School - Ra, Tunuloa Primary School - Cakaudrove, Seaqaqa District School - Macuata and the above mentioned schools.
"Clean, renewable energy is in line with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal #7 and aligns perfectly with our long standing Go Green commitment. Despite their isolation and limited access to basic amenities such as power and communication, these children and their teachers certainly deserve this support," Mr Ali mentioned.
BSP has partnered with local solar power companies to facilitate the installation and staff have also contributed sweat equity working on their respective school projects prior to the official handover.
