The Namarai Health Centre is the primary health care facility for 10 villages and 8 settlements along the Nakorotubu District coastline.
Earlier this year, the facility was badly damaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston and urgently needed repairs.
BSP Rakiraki branch staff were made aware of this and quickly decided to volunteer their time with the financial backing of the Bank. All BSP branches receive a funding allocation each year to identify and support a community project within their locality. In the case of our BSP Rakiraki branch, the project required increased funding support, which was made possible by the Bank's core banking service partner, TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) based in Australia.
BSP Country Manager, Mr Kevin McCarthy has reiterated the Banks' support for improving the lives of people in the communities where BSP operates. "We experienced and witnessed the aftermath of TC Winston and delivered immediate relief supplies soon after. We witnessed the incredible challenges people faced in their recovery path," he said. "This community project at Namarai demonstrates our commitment to helping these communities."
This year, BSP Community Projects were re-aligned to focus on offering help in the areas of clean water supply, implementation of solar power supply and infrastructure development where possible.
