Schools rugby powerhouse Queen Victoria School received their newly refurbished gym from the Bank today in a special ceremony.

This was a community project by the Nausori Branch and Customer Care Department.

The building used to be the engine room which supplied power to the school.

Later, part of it it became a makeshift gym for students during the school's sports season and now it will become a proper gym, thanks to the refurbishment.

The school won 4 grades out of 7 at this year's Deans Rugby Championship, came 2nd at the Coca Cola Games.

BSP General Manager Human Resources Howard Politini, who handed over the facility told students how sports played an important part in their education.

"Quality education is about wholesomeness - body, mind and spirit. That gym is about developing your body to be able to utilise all your physical abilities in whatever sport - not just rugby."

"This is a school with a rich history where great leaders were produced in academia and the sporting fields."

School Principal Silivio Vueti said the gym is a great asset to have because students do not have access to a proper gym unlike schools in urban areas

"I would like to thank BSP for their community-based vision, we have had this dream for a long time but always fell short."

Mr Vueti added that BSP's donation has greatly helped in kick starting their drive in inviting major stakeholders and old scholars to help equip the gym.
