"Here in Fiji we have always been looking for specific ways to assist Team Fiji which is why we are very proud of this sponsorship and we're sure that FASANOC will make this $70,000 work for the athletes," said BSP Country Manager, Mr Kevin McCarthy.
BSP cash donations in Fiji have now reached $103,000 which has assisted sporting federations in raising the much needed funds to get teams across to the Games. Other assistance has been in the form of sporting equipment. Athletes who will eventually travel to the Games will also receive a personal BSP gift pack.
With 44 days to go to the start of the Pacific Games, FASANOC has confirmed that over two third of the required funds have been raised and they are now appealing for assistance to reach the required sum of $2.3million.
FASANOC President, Mr Joe Rodan acknowledged the donation by BSP saying that the support for sports went beyond the games venue. "As Fijians, we all love sports and BSP is taking the lead in being a great company using the Pacific Games as a vehicle to identify with customers and the general public," said Mr Rodan. "BSP is doing more than just promoting healthy living. You're advocating good corporate citizenship and I hope that others will follow suit."
Mr McCarthy has confirmed that BSP will support the FASANOC "Go for Gold" initiative where the public and corporates are invited to donate a saqamoli or two and help send Team Fiji to the Pacific Games.
In addition, as a leading financial services provider, BSP will offer Foreign Currency Exchange services for Team Fiji and VISA Debit cards are available for BSP customers wishing to access their BSP Fiji account in PNG during the games.
Some of the sports that have received assistance from BSP include Karate Fiji, Fiji Powerlifting federation, Fiji Lawn Bowls Association, Fiji Beach Volleyball Commission, Squash Fiji, Fiji Table Tennis Federation, Athletics Fiji, and Fiji Netball Association.
